Abstract

The study formulated low temperature glazes using waste borosilicate glasses with selected materials (ball clay, feldspar, and kaolin). Glaze formulation and physio mechanical properties were identified. The raw materials were beneficiated, batches were formulated using triaxial and Quadaxial blend formula for glazes. Maturing temperature used are 1100oC and 1150oC. Physio-mechanical properties (Vitreousness, crazing and Imperviousness) results showed that sample 1 blend 36 (75% borosilicate and 25% ball clay and 22 blend 49 (80% borosilicate, 10% kaolin and 10% feldspar) met the standard. Therefore, recommended Borosilicate glasses for glazes formulation. Also sample 1 of 36 blend and sample 22 of 49 blend of the materials for low fired glaze work as they met necessary characteristics in terms of shiny, corrosion and hardness resistance.
