Abstract

Nigeria has been facing an extreme electricity shortage. This deficiency is multi-faceted, with issues that are financial, structural and socio-political, none of which is mutually exclusive, irregular electricity supply has been a major bane to output growth in the manufacturing and building sector; Considering that 30% of global electricity consumption is attributed to lighting with a study based on Abuja, daylighting accounts for 12% of an annual energy consumption for office building typology total 249 KWh/m2/year. Therfore a savings due to lighting is considered an important factor in solving the Nigeria’s power supply crises. The study uses a concise review of literature and observation of deep office buildings in abuja; suggesting that the use of available daylighting techniques effectively will not only reduce electrical power demand, but also reduce energy consumption in Abujas’ deep office spaces. This techniques could be applied to new construction and retrofitting of deep office spaces and likewise
