MICRO FINANCE BANKS PORTFOLIO AMPLIFICATION AND ENTREPRENEURIAL ACTIVITIES: EVIDENCE FROM MICRO FINANCE BANKS IN GOMBE STATE

The global importance of Microfinance banks among other things cannot be over-emphasized, especially in the area of poverty diminution. However, in that regard, working class and other institutions financing the enterprises have created a compelling need to design strategies for providing many services to the entrepreneurs. The study specifically attempted to examine the extent to which portfolio amplification (enlargement) of micro finance banks in Nigeria increases entrepreneurial activities. The study used survey method to generate data from the 90 operational staff of micro finance banks in Gombe State. Regression analysis was used to analyze the data generated with aid of SPSS package version 20. The stud study reveals that, there is significant relationship between the dependent and independent variables. The study recommended that Microfinance banks need to enhance their diversification technique to enlarge their portfolio that will develop stronger entrepreneurial activities, also the study recommended that, Microfinance banks in Nigeria; especially where the study was conducted should ensure that available resources with the banks should be allocated properly within the armpit of the law.
