EFFECT OF JOB SATISFACTION ON THE JOB PERFORMANCE OF ACADEMIC AND NON ACADEMIC EMPLOYEES OF FEDERAL UNIVERSITY, DUTSE, NIGERIA

Performance of academic and nonacademic employees is linchpin to the progress and wellbeing of any university: because performance and contribution of academic and nonacademic employees help towards the realization of the goals of universities particularly quality research, teaching, and learning. Job satisfaction was reported by many studies to have positive impact on job performance thus can be one of the possible ways to achieve higher academic and nonacademic employees performance. The primary objective of this study is to examine the effect of job satisfaction on job performance of academic and nonacademic employees of federal university, Dutse, Nigeria. The study is quantitative in nature and survey research design was used. 211 academic and nonacademic employees participated in the study through convenient sampling technique. Regression analysis was used for data analysis through SPSS version 20. The study found that job satisfaction has significant and positive effect on task performance and contextual performance. Counterproductive work behavior insignificantly and negatively relates with job satisfaction. The study recommended that the management of federal university Dutse should focus attention on the job satisfaction of its academic and nonacademic employees towards improving their performance. Specifically, it is recommended that job satisfaction towards improving task performance should be given priority because job satisfaction accounts for more variation in task performance than any other dimension of job performance used in the study.
